To provide a forum for fellow PPIRS librarians to share their experiences and ideas about how AI technologies affect their professional work. This group discussion will focus on recent advances in free and subscription generative AI tools that are actively in use by students, faculty, and staff in higher education. As these tools and their underlying technologies are advancing quickly, it is helpful to have an ongoing conversation with our peers to compare best practices and discoveries.
You can post to the list by sending an email to ALA-ACRL-PPIRS-AIL-DG@ConnectedCommunity.org or by creating a new discussion post directly in the Connect community.

    Dear Colleagues

I received this email and thought some of you might want to consider writing a proposal.  It's a 15-20 presentation opportunity. It would be great to see some PPIRS folks get selected.

    Thanks
    Brett

IFLA's Social Sciences Section invites proposals for our upcoming online event titled, "Shaping the Future: The Impact of AI in Social Sciences Librarianship." This virtual event will bring together library professionals, academic faculty and staff, and technology experts to explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence in supporting and advancing social sciences librarianship.

Theme: The integration of artificial intelligence in library services has the potential to revolutionize how information is accessed, managed, and interpreted. For social sciences, AI offers unique opportunities to enhance data-driven research, streamline resource management, and provide new insights for diverse social phenomena. In this webinar we hope to address key issues, innovative practices, and ethical considerations for librarians in the social sciences field who aim to leverage AI to meet evolving librarian and user needs.

Topics of Interest: We welcome proposals on various aspects of AI and its impact on social sciences librarianship, including but not limited to:

    • AI and Information Access: How AI can support discovery systems, information retrieval, and access to social science resources.
    • Data-Driven Research Support: Using AI for data analytics, social data mining, and supporting researchers with advanced data needs.
    • Resource Management and Curation: Applications of AI in cataloging, classification, and metadata management.
    • User Services and Experience: Innovations in virtual reference services, AI-powered chatbots, and personalized user support.
    • Ethical and Privacy Considerations: Addressing data privacy, algorithmic bias, and responsible use of AI in social science libraries.
    • Case Studies and Best Practices: Real-world examples of AI applications in social sciences librarianship.

Submission Guidelines: We invite librarians, researchers, technologists, and practitioners to submit proposals for presentations, panels,  interactive sessions, or roundtable discussions. Submissions should include:

    • Title: A concise and descriptive title for the presentation.
    • Abstract: A 200-300 word summary describing the session's focus, relevance, and key takeaways.
    • Speaker Information: Full name, title, affiliation, and contact information for each speaker.
    • Format: 15-20 minute presentation with slides, Q&A after the presentations
    • Technical Requirements: Any specific technical needs for your presentation.

    Important Dates:
