We've received a purchase request for a well-regarded text that is older than our general guidelines for purchasing. My supervisor has tasked me with gaining a bit more insight into how "pertinent" this text is for other medical schools.
Does your library have this text in your collection? If so, is it a physical or electronic version, and is it used very often?
Do any of the courses in your curriculum use the book as a textbook? Your surgery clerkship, maybe? If not, would you be willing to share what texts they are using for surgery-related coursework instead?
Silen, W. & Cope, Z. (2010). Cope's early diagnosis of the acute abdomen, 22nd ed. Oxford University Press.
Thanks, and feel free to reach out to me directly as well, at j.gilbertredman@und.edu, if you'd prefer!
