The International Visual Literacy Association is now welcoming proposals for our 2023 conference, which will be at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The hybrid event will feature an online conference day Monday, October 2nd with in-person conference events happening Thursday, October 5th through Sunday, October 8th.
Conference Theme:
The conference theme is Ways of Seeing. As professionals who may be practicing artists, educators, or museum professionals, and as people with different cultural backgrounds and life experiences, we all have different perspectives when it comes to interpreting visual information. This conference will examine those perspectives and ask what we might learn from each other.
Session Types:
Paper presentation (25 min)
Paper presentations are descriptions of completed projects. The author will present on a project's research question, methodology, discussion, and results for approximately 15-20 minutes, using technology as appropriate. The remaining 5-10 minutes are reserved for questions.
Poster session (2 hours)
Poster sessions are similar to paper presentations in that they represent completed projects, though are focused towards stimulating discussion. Posters should be easy to read and highlight the major points of the author's research.
Workshop (2 hours)
Workshops are long interactive skill sharing sessions. Presenters should have specific learning outcomes for the audience. Presenters are responsible for providing all materials.
Panel discussions (55 minutes)
Panel discussions are organized around a specific theme, and include 3-4 panelists. If you are proposing a panel discussion, please include your topic as well as names of panelists.
Campfire (55 minutes)
Campfire Sessions begin like a paper presentation, though after 15 or 20 minutes the focus shifts from the presenter to the audience. For the remainder of the session, the presenter becomes a facilitator, inviting comments, insights, and questions from those around the room. Campfire sessions allow attendees to drive their own learning and share experiences with others, which also assists with networking.
