    Good morning everyone,

I want to let you know that I will be meeting virtually with Jon Cawthorne, ACRL Vice President, on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 10 a.m.   As you know Jon is the Dean of Wayne State University Libraries in Detroit, MI and I'm at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI.

I have a few items on my list to discuss with Jon

    • ACRL Community College Research Study Findings and Recommendations 2017 by McKinley group
    • Appointing more community college librarians to ACRL committees
    • Appointing more community college librarians to chair ACRL committees

Any other suggestions for the meeting?

    Thanks, Sandy.

I hope it is a good conversation.

Let's touch base soon thereafter and see if it affects how we forge ahead with the implementation group this fall.

    Hi Michael,

Did you ever receive information from Mary Jane Petrowski following our meeting with her at ALA about number of community college proposals received at ACRL annual and at ALA annual?   How many were accepted?  What was the total of programs accepted?

If no, please reach out again this week with an email to her. Perhaps cc me and anyone else on this Task Force.

    Thank you,

    Sandy

    Sandy,

I've been out of the office for the past two weeks, so my apologies for the delay getting back to everyone.

Regarding the number of program proposals submitted for the 2019 ALA Annual Conference: attached is a spreadsheet listing the 580 program proposals that were submitted by the 11 ALA divisions.  Of these, 36 had no institutional information for the presenter.  You will need to look through the list and identify the community colleges since they are not coded by Carnegie class.  There were additional proposals submitted under the auspices of ALA Roundtables or ALA Offices but we don't have access to that data.

I have an inquiry out to Margot Conahan regarding the number of program proposals submitted to the 2019 ACRL Conference by community college librarians.  She will be back in the office on Monday, so I will share that information if (and as soon as) it is available.

    Hi everyone,

I reached out to Margot Conahan last week regarding ACRL 2019 Conference proposal submissions and she sent me the following information.  This info was also shared with Peter Hepburn on Feb. 15, 2019 in response to a similar inquiry:

"I did an analysis of the number of ACRL 2019 submitters who selected community college as their institution type. We ask submitters to identify University/College/Community College/Other as their institution type on the proposal submission form. Out of 4,176 submitters, only 167 or 4% were from Community Colleges. It's a similar problem that we have with tech services, unfortunately, it's hard to accept when the volume of proposals aren't there. I also looked to see how many submissions were tagged with "Type of Library – Community College." There were 23 submissions with the Community College secondary tag."

I have asked Margot to confirm that the 2021 proposal submission form will ask submitters to identify their Carnegie classification.

I sent that information to you and Michael in a separate email earlier this week along with a spreadsheet. I can re-send when I’m back in the office next week.

I have attached the list of programs for the 2019 ALA Annual Conference which were offered by the 11 ALA divisions.  There is no institutional affiliation listed but you can find on the spreadsheet listing all of the proposals.

I have requested a list of program proposals submitted by ALA Offices and Roundtables and accepted.  I will post if and when I receive it from the ALA Conference Services Office.

    Sandy,

I have asked staff if acceptance figures are available for the ALA 2019 Annual Conference; however, as I noted above when I posted the spreadsheet listing the 580 program proposals that were submitted by the 11 ALA divisions for the ALA 2019 Conference, I don't have data compiled by Carnegie Classification, so you will need to look through the list and identify the community colleges..  There were additional proposals submitted under the auspices of ALA Roundtables or ALA Offices but we don't have access to that data.
