    Speaker:  Mark Puente

Description: For generations the library and information science (LIS) profession has struggled with a lack of diversity within its ranks. Unfortunately, the profession has been able to do little more than maintain the status quo in representation in spite of decades of recruitment and other efforts, and millions of dollars of investment. In recent months the narrative has shifted to an intentional focus on racial equity and the systems and policies that have worked to maintain homogeneity within the LIS workforce and in the resources and environments we steward. The presentation will provide an exploration of frameworks and organization development models that can guide leaders and institutions toward building more equitable environments and practices. A focus of the program will be on shifting mental models from a "diversity" frame to an "equity" frame, with practical guidance on how leaders can overcome the challenges to building more just cultures and practices.
