Blog subgroup questions and recommendations

The blog is up and running! You can see what we’ve done so far at http://acrl.ala.org/isteach/. We also have some questions for the group:

    1. Name for the blog? Stick with “ACRL Instruction Section Teaching Methods Committee” or choose something simpler with the committee name as a subtitle? We recommend "Teaching Librarian Resources" as the title and using the committee name as the subtitle.

    2. Pages: Home, News, Bibliographies, Librarian of the Month, About - Any additional pages? Rename, reorder, or remove any pages? We recommend sticking with these pages. Home: central, reverse chronological listing of all posts. News: committee announcements, cross-postings from other committees, etc. Bibliographies and Librarian of the Month: self-explanatory. About: committee charge, members, and contact information for blog administration.

    3. Categories or tagging? - It's important to keep this simple and consistent. Categories can be hierarchical, tags are not. We recommend designating 5 Categories to start with (News, Bibliographies, First Year Experience, Teaching and Learning, and Librarian of the Month) and using Tags less formally as needed.

    4. How will bibliographies be integrated? We recommend a new post for each new resource with links back to the full Zotero/Mendeley bibliographies. Attribution should be given as needed or desired by selectors.

Finally, we have a recommendation for the Management Responsibilities: In order to minimize confusion and maximize consistency, Brandon and Sara volunteer to be the blog managers during their terms on the committee. Blog managers will be responsible for posting content and moderating comments.

Looking forward to your feedback. Thank you.

    Hello,

Sorry to be late completing my reviews! Here are my thoughts:

    1. Name for the blog? Stick with “ACRL Instruction Section Teaching Methods Committee” or choose something simpler with the committee name as a subtitle? We recommend "Teaching Librarian Resources" as the title and using the committee name as the subtitle.

I'm not having any creative thoughts but will keep thinking. I agree re simple, catchy title and use committee name as subtitle/in branding.

Instead of "Bibliographies," how about "Recommended Readings". Agree with all other page suggestions and descriptions.

Agree with these suggestions. Likewise here, Recommended Readings rather than Bibliographies (or just Readings if more succinct is better)

    4. How will bibliographies be integrated? We recommend a new post for each new resource with links back to the full Zotero/Mendeley bibliographies. Attribution should be given as needed or desired by selectors.

I like this; we'll probably also have to see what we think, as we go, i.e. will we quote the abstract text of an item/summarize ourselves/. . . ?

Finally, we have a recommendation for the Management Responsibilities: In order to minimize confusion and maximize consistency, Brandon and Sara volunteer to be the blog managers during their terms on the committee. Blog managers will be responsible for posting content and moderating comments.

I appreciate this. Perhaps if anyone else is really keen to be closely involved with the blog, you might be open to sharing this work with an additional person?

Thanks to you both for all of your work on the blog!
    Merinda

We'll want to standardize "Recommended Readings"/"Selected Resources"/(aka the bibliographies). Reviewing the "Selected Resources" (aka Top 10 . . . ) subgroup's questions and thinking of this.
