Associate University Librarian, Content Discovery
The University of Northern Iowa's (UNI) Rod Library seeks a collaborative and visionary individual to serve as Associate University Librarian, Content Discovery. Rod Library, located at the heart of campus, serves more than 12,000 students, faculty, and staff at one of three public universities in Iowa. The Library includes the UNI Museum and the HNI Corporation Instructional Resources & Technology Services (IRTS), which is located in the Schindler Education Center. The Library is committed to supporting student success, diversity and inclusion, campus vitality, and community engagement, as outlined in its strategic plan.
The Associate University Librarian will provide leadership and strategic direction for the library's Content Discovery Division, one of three library divisions. The division includes Access Services (including Interlibrary Loan), Cataloging and Metadata, Digital Scholarship, and Resource Management (Acquisitions and Collections), with a total of 24 faculty and staff. The position reports to the Dean of Library Services.
This is a full-time tenure eligible administrative faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate's record must demonstrate professional accomplishments that warrant this appointment.
This position will be responsible for developing the vision and strategic direction and providing leadership for the Content Discovery Division; supervising and supporting unit coordinators, selected tenured and tenure-track faculty, and professional & scientific staff; fostering an environment of collegiality, respect, trust, and teamwork; monitoring and evaluating trends and developments in librarianship relevant to the division; building productive relationships with internal and external partners; serving as a member of the library's Executive Management Team and Dean's Advisory Group; participating in appropriate professional associations; serving on library, university, and professional committees; and engaging in research, scholarship, and creative work.

ALA-accredited Master's degree in library or information science or international equivalent required.
Required qualifications include increasing responsibilities in positions relating to collections, technical services, digital scholarship, and/or access services; at least three years of experience managing or supervising the work of librarians and/or staff in an academic library; evidence of competence in strategic planning, collaborative decision-making, and project management in a rapidly changing environment; demonstrated skills in leadership, oral and written communication, and creative problem solving; demonstrated ability to foster an environment of collegiality, respect, trust, and teamwork; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trends relevant to any of the areas of the division; and a record suitable for appointment at the Associate Professor rank or higher.
Preferred qualifications include experience supporting and/or mentoring tenured and tenure-track faculty; demonstrated experience in improving workflow and services; experience with data-informed decision making; and demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion. Not all preferred qualifications must necessarily be met to be a successful candidate.
