ACRL Committee Leader Fall Updates

  • 1.  ACRL Committee Leader Fall Updates

    Posted Sep 28, 2020 02:00 PM

    Dear ACRL Committee Chairs,

I hope you enjoyed your summer and that your academic year is off to a great start, despite the challenges many of us may be facing this year.

As you begin working with your committees on the projects outlined in your annual work plans, I wanted to send you a few upcoming dates and deadlines. I am also sharing the July Virtual Leader Orientation, which includes info on work plans, communication, meetings, and other topics to help you succeed this year as an ACRL leader.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to your staff liaison, Board liaison, or me if you have questions that come up throughout the year.

    Best,

    Allison Payne, MLIS (She/Her/Hers)

    Program Manager for Strategic Initiatives

ACRL Fall Board Virtual Meeting Board Doc Deadline: October 30

The ACRL Board of Directors will be holding the ACRL Fall Board Virtual Meeting on November 16, 2020, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm central. To submit a document (e.g., petition to establish a new ACRL unit, funding request, resolution, task force report, etc.) for Board consideration, follow the below steps by October 30, 2020.

    1. Complete a Board of Directors action form or discussion form working with your ACRL staff and Board liaisons. Requests for supplemental funding should comply with ACRL Policies and Procedures.
    2. Email your Board action form and supporting documents to me at apayne@ala.org, with copy to your staff and Board liaisons by the deadline. If you need an extension, contact me in advance of the deadline so that space can be allocated in the draft Board meeting agenda.
Please expect an email acknowledging receipt of your submission within one business day of submission. If you do not receive a confirmation, please email again or call Allison at 312-280-2519.

    ACRL 3-Part Leadership Council

I hope you have found valuable the ACRL Leadership Council sessions, hosted by ACRL President Jon Cawthorne and facilitated by McKensie Mack, who is the Founder and Managing Director of the McKensie Mack Group (MMG) and the Creator of #BoundaryWork. Here is the recording link for leaders who were unable to attend or would like to re-watch Part 1, "There's No Such Thing As Race Neutral: Developing Strategies for Anti-Racist Librarianship."

The Part 2 breakout sessions concluded on September 25, but please make sure to complete the pre-work assignment and register if you have not already for Part 3, "Taking Action, Seeking Repair: Organizing for Anti-Racism," on October 9, 2020, from noon-1:30pm central.

    ACRL 2021–2022 Committee Appointments

The volunteer form will open December 1, 2020 and all applications will be due February 12, 2021. All interested volunteers, including current committee members who would like to apply for reappointment, must complete the online form. The Call for Volunteers will be posted on ACRL Insider and shared though ACRL social media.

After the form opens in December, the ACRL Appointments Committee will be in contact with committee chairs for recommendations on reappointment. Committee chairs, please keep an eye out for this important message, and contact me at apayne@ala.org if you do not receive this message by January 31, 2021.

ACRL Virtual Meetings, Agendas & Minutes

ACRL offers use of its Zoom virtual meeting rooms to its membership groups. Due to the increasing demand for meeting space from our 300+ groups, we ask that member leaders first consider alternative options for their smaller committee meetings lasting an hour or less. If your meeting is longer than one hour and you do not have access to alternative options, please consult the ACRL virtual meeting calendar and schedule well in advance.

For all virtual meetings, an agenda should be submitted to your staff liaison and posted to ALA Connect at least 10 days before the meeting. The meeting minutes should also be submitted to your staff liaison and posted to ALA Connect within 30 days after the virtual meeting.
