    ACRL Leadership DG Webinar on Personal Librarians: Building Relationships for Student Success


    Date/Time: August 14, Wednesday from 9-10 am PT/12-1 pm ET


    Summary: Does your library offer a personal librarian program? Not sure what it is? The ACRL Leadership Discussion Group invites the co-authors of the newest publication, Personal Librarians: Building Relationships for Student Success (ABC CLIO 2019) to present a free webinar on this topic. Lynne Bisko, Heather Buchansky, Brian C. Gray, and E. Gail Reese will share insights on how and why academic libraries should start a personal librarians programs (PLP) by providing successful case studies and examples. Academic librarians interested in creating a sustainable PLP may want to attend this webinar to hear more about their work.

    Speakers:


    Brian C. Gray is the Special Projects Officer for the Kelvin Smith Library, Case Western Reserve University. He co-chaired the library's implementation of its personal librarian program and the three national conferences focused on personal-librarian and first-year-experience programs. He taught technology courses for Kent State University School of Library and Information Science. He has held leadership positions for the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) and for the Academic Library Association of Ohio. He holds a BS in chemical engineering (University of Akron), an MLIS (Kent State University), and an MBA (Case Western Reserve University).

    Heather Buchansky is the Student Engagement Librarian at the University of Toronto Libraries. She coordinates large-scale initiatives related to library orientation, outreach, and information literacy, primarily for undergraduate students. Prior to entering librarianship, she worked as a teacher, and a sales consultant for a university press.

    Gail Reese is associate director for public engagement and library administration at the Kelvin Smith Library, Case Western Reserve University. She holds a BS from Spelman College and two master's degrees from Case Western Reserve University, one in library and information science and the other in management of nonprofit organizations. She co-chaired the first two national conferences focused on personal librarians and first-year experience programs. She is an ALA 2010 H.W. Library Staff Development Grant recipient.

    Lynne Bisko is the Outreach Librarian at Carol Grotnes Belk Library, Elon University, where she created and manages the library's personal librarian program. She has worked in higher education since 2003, before which she worked in software development project management. She holds a BA in computer science from The College of William and Mary, and an MLS from Texas Woman's University.
