Join the Science Technology Section's Information Literacy committee on June 14, at 3p central for our inaugural STS-IL Journal Club!
Registration is required, and please use this registration link.
Hosted by a group of STS-IL members interested in finding ways to connect with colleagues and stay on top of current research in STEM Librarianship, this group will provide a topic, article citations, and guiding questions to participants. Attendance is open to all - no need to be a member of STS.
The topic of this first meeting will be "Defining Science Librarianship." We ask that attendees read:
- Eksridge, H.E., & Carroll, A.J. (2020). "Why do we need an engineering library?": Designing team-based liaison services for STEM educators and researchers. Portal: Libraries and the Academy, 20(4) 565-584. https://doi.org/10.1353/pla.2020.0038
And then choose at least one of the following articles/chapters to read:
- Carlozzi, M. (2018). Teaching in libraries: not an elective part of the job. In J. Percell, L. C. Sarin, P. T. Jaeger, & J. C. Bertot (Eds.). In Advances in Librarianship (Vol. 44, pp. 201–213). Emerald Publishing Limited. https://doi.org/10.1108/S0065-28302018000044B011
- Renfro, C. & Critz, L. (2018). How to be a subject specialist when you aren't: Engineering librarianship for the non-engineer. Paper presented at 2018 ASEE Annual Conference & Exposition, Salt Lake City, Utah. https://www.asee.org/public/conferences/106/papers/21376/
- Sterner, E. (2020). Science/STEM librarianship in 2020: Opportunities and insight. Science & Technology Libraries, 39(4) https://www.doi.org/10.1080/0194262X.2020.1781023
We'll jump into randomized breakout rooms to discuss these in more depth and then come together at the end to discuss overarching themes.
We're very much still in the process of developing this journal club, so we welcome your suggestions and thoughts! Please use this Suggestion Form to share any questions or thoughts.
