In addition to making the social, cultural, and linguistic transitions to live and study in another country, transnational students navigate a wide variety of shifts to their information and media landscapes. How can we understand and support the digital and information literacy practices of transnational students? In this program, we'll hear from Huan Gao, a doctoral student at the University of Florida who is researching the information literacy competencies of Chinese students studying in American universities. In this interactive webinar, we'll explore these questions:
- How do culture and identity influence our understanding of digital and information literacy?
- How do transnational students' digital/information/media experiences in their home country influence their practices in the host country?
- Are digital/information literacy competencies transferable to another culturally different internet environment?
- How might librarians and other educators address the needs of transnational students?
