Hello all,
Passing along details of an event that may be of interest to members of the History Librarians Interest Group. ----------------------------------------------
Registration is now open for Library History Seminar (LHS), the special conference of ALA's Library History Round Table. Held every 5 years since 1961, this year's seminar will take place virtually from Thursday, June 10th through Saturday, June 12th, 2021. While it is free, seating is limited, so please register today!:
LHS will begin with a Keynote Address by Dr. Renate Chancellor, Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at the Catholic University of America, who will speak on "'The Hill We Climb': Towards Equity and Inclusion in Library and Information Science." Dr. Chancellor's research focuses on human information behavior and social justice. Her recent publications include E.J. Josey: Transformational Leader in the Modern Library Profession (2020) and a forthcoming book on Clara Stanton Jones.
In addition, LHS will feature 4 "Invited Speakers" programs, geared toward students, new historians, and not-so-new historians who wish to learn new skills:
*Short Form Library History: Writing Book Reviews, Blog Posts, and Newsletter Articles *Getting Your Library History Research Published: Journal Editors Tell All (or Most!) *Getting Started with Library History Research: Biographical, Institutional, and International *Writing Library History for General Audiences: Q&A with Children's Nonfiction Authors
Last but never least, more than 30 scholars will present research papers on topics ranging from the history of outreach and instruction in various library contexts, to ALA leaders like Jennie Flexner, to the development of Marian (Christian) libraries, to British men's experiences as academic librarians, to the influence of occult literature on cinema -- and more. There will be some lightning talks / social events as well.
