Born in Managua, Nicaragua, Roberto's family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1975. His previous employment includes work as a reference and acquisitions librarian in the Hispanic Services Division of the Inglewood Public Library and as a cataloguer with the Beverly Hills Public Library.

My primary responsibility at the University Library is to help build and maintain the Humanities, Social Sciences and Government Information Services collections. In this capacity, I evaluate and select resources in print and electronic formats that support the research of UC Davis faculty and students. I also serve as a liaison to faculty or students researching topics related to Chican@ Studies, Disability Studies, Education, Exercise Science, Literatures in English, Military Science, Religious Studies, and the University Writing Program. I also provide in-depth research assistance and library instruction upon request. In addition to my subject responsibilities, I serve as chair of the UC English and American Literature Bibliographer Group. I also provide general reference assistance at the Information/Extended Reference Desk
