Call for Proposals: Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services IG - ALA Midwinter 2013

The ALCTS Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services Interest Group (RPLTS IG) is seeking proposals for presentations at ALA Midwinter 2013, in Seattle, WA. RPLTS will meet from 10:30-11:30 on Saturday, January 26th at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel (Municipal Room).

All topics related to the role of the professional librarian in technical services are welcome, and presenters will be allotted approximately 15-20 minutes, with a short time for questions after the presentations.

Hello everyone,

As you might remember from an announcement in early January, our proposal for a program about applications in the health sciences was accepted for annual 2013 with the provision that we join STS who also proposed a program on this topic. Great minds do seem to think alike!! I have communicated with the STS program commitee and we have decided that we will have a panel of three speakers on the following topics:

ECPA revisited in congressional lame duck session?

Heads up:  Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) and the congressional lame duck session....

We have heard that it is more than likely that Senator Leahy will bring up ECPA during the Congressional lame duck session in mid-November.  We are waiting to see just what provisions are being changed.  Will keep you all up-to-date as we hear more, although likely we won't hear much until after the November elections.

Goals Update October 2012

The Committee has finalized our call for proposals for the Midwinter Meeting in January and sent it out via a number of listservs.  We have also posted the call in ALA Connect.  Our plan is to evaluate proposals and choose the two winners by the 25th so that the titles and descriptions will appear in the printed program for Midwinter.
