Post Draft charge: Regional Workshops Committee

Status: Draft; brought to the RBMS Executive Committee for a vote 2009 November 4

RBMS Regional Workshops Committee

Charge: Responsible for initiating and coordinating a program for presenting RBMS preconference workshops throughout the year in regional settings.

Comment: This program is intended to take workshops presented at the RBMS preconference to a wider audience, with an optimal schedule of one in the fall and one in the spring in different areas of the country. The committee will:

  • Identify workshops, speakers/presenters, host institutions, and dates;
  • Coordinate workshop logistics;
  • Work with ACRL to develop budgets for the workshops; and
  • Publicize the workshops through the RBMS website and appropriate listservs.

Coordination: The committee is composed of two members nominated by the chair of the RBMS Membership & Professional Development Committee, one member nominated by the chair of the RBMS Budget & Development Committee, one member nominated by the chair of the Conference Development Committee, and one of the at-large members of the RBMS Executive Committee, along with any other members the vice-chair/chair-elect may wish to appoint. Regional Workshops Committee members who were nominated by other committee chairs will also serve as regular or ex officio members on those respective committees. The chair, appointed by the vice/chair-chair/elect, is normally expected to have had previous experience organizing regional workshops.

The charge as given above (Nov 4 2009) has been approved by the RBMS Executive Committee, except that we must eliminate use of "listservs," a proprietary brand name, and change to "electronic discussion lists." Approved and corrected version posted separately.

Deborah,

I applaud you and the EC in experimenting with this.  I'll be curious to see how it is utilized.  So many messages are lost (or not read) because of the continuous-chain responses in email.  I hope we can consider virtual-meeting(s) in the future, too.
