Labor Issues in the Service Sectors
Tue, 10/13/2009 - 11:55am
During these times of economic hardship, more and more individuals in the service industry are going to face the high likelihood of loosing their jobs for long periods of time. There is a better likelihood of a CEO/CIO and other executive posisions at lower levels to receive from $1 million to HUNDREDS of millions of dollars (some of it from stimulus and TARP funds). The next time you see a hotel worker, a resourt manager, anyone displaced from their job, remember those individuals making high salaries at their (and your and my) expense. Help your fellow union member in any way you can and pay close attention to their issues and concerns at the places where they are taking actions.

Hyatt Boston
Wed, 10/14/2009 - 5:04am
Shame on ALA for supporting the Hyatt's unconscionable firing of their entire housekeeping staff so they could replace them with even lower paid temps. The only thing that prevents the Hyatt or any other corporation from behaving like this is the fear that their customers will not put up with it and will take their business elsewhere. There are lots of other hotels in Boston. We don't need to stay there. We should do the right thing and support these vulnerable housekeepers over corporate greed.
