    The Spectrum Scholars Interest Group (SSIG) is looking for new members! We have a great team in place for 2009-2010, but we could use about 8-9 more members to round out the group.

    What is the Spectrum Scholars Interest Group? We're a team of past scholars from a variety of professional settings, class years, and backgrounds who's charge includes:

    • Cultivating the peer-mentoring and networking aspects of the community of Spectrum Scholars;
    • Representing careers in libraries and the Spectrum program at local recruitment opportunities;
    • Increasing the participation of Spectrum Scholars in ALA Committees and leadership;
    • Raising awareness of the Spectrum Scholarship Program; and
    • Promoting the interests and concerns of the Spectrum Scholars throughout the Association and the community at large.

    Sound like the kind of group you'd like to join? If so, I'm looking for scholars who are great at

    • planning and organizing events;
    • exhibiting at career fairs;
    • coordinating conference programs; and
    • working with social networking technology.

    If you have any of these skills and are committed to improving and expanding the Spectrum Scholarship program, you'd be a great SSIG member! To apply for a spot, send an email to me at varellano@gmail.com with your name, Spectrum year, qualifications, and reasons for wanting to join SSIG by Saturday, September 12.

    New members will be selected and notified by Wednesday, September 16, 2009.

    Cheers,

    Veronica Arellano, Chair
    on behalf of the Spectrum Scholars Interest Group
