ACRL Virtual Vote April 2-9: Board consideration of ACRL becoming a member of the Library Copyright Alliance at a direct cost of $20,000 per year.

The ACRL Board of Directors will consider the attached action form and conduct a virtual vote during the period of April 2-9, 2009. The results of the vote will be added to this post.

The Library Copyright Alliance (LCA) works toward a unified voice and common strategy for the library community in responding to and developing proposals to amend national and international copyright law and policy for the digital environment. The LCA's mission is to foster global access and fair use of information for creativity, research, and education.

Just a quick plug for LCA and the work of Mr. Band on LCA's behalf.

As an ACRL Legislative Advocate (and ALA Office for Information Technology (OITP) Advisory Committee member) I have regularly found LCA materials and Mr. Band's works and briefings on Copyright (and related) Policy on behalf of libraries to be top notch and very helpful in conversations with legislators and legislative aides/staffers.

I hope this proposed action is approved, as it will strengthen ACRL's position and assist with moving our agendas.

I did not read the dates close enough.
I see this vote happened almost 5 weeks ago at this point (but I still hope it passed) :)
