In the time since the ALA Meeting in Anaheim, there has been very little official work for our committee. The call for nominations for the upcoming election was sent out. Hopefully we have a good turn out of candidates.

In going forward, our committee will need to focus on the following:

In the time since the ALA Meeting in Chicago:

In the time since the ALA Meeting in Chicago:

  • ALA Annual: Past: Getting committee members to be at the conference and getting them to offer to help was a challenge. Many committee members do not use ALA Connect, even though it is the best way for us to communicate and there be a record of it. Future: We need to gather all contact information on committee members (name, email, phone, social media) so that there is no confusion on who is planning on participating on helping the Roundtable at conferences.
  • Promotion: We have successfully completed a new GLBTRT brochure with the new ALA design. We are one of the first to have the new design. Ann has mentioned that she would like to see another brochure made to entice new members – especially allies.
  • Membership: For those of us that came to Annual, we worked hard to promote the Roundtable. Our first membership numbers after annual showed that we gained 51 new memberships. We have lost some since, but we are still doing well. At Annual in Las Vegas we need to work hard again.
  • Elections: This task was moved to a different committee. I started the election drive this year and wrote a passionate paragraph why we need people to lead GLBTRT.

I welcome suggestions or additions to this report.  I am not able to be at Midwinter.

Respectfully Submitted,

In the time since the ALA Meeting in Seattle, I have been preparing for Annual.

Updates:

In the time since the ALA Meeting in Seattle, I have been preparing for Annual.

Updates:

  • ALA Annual: I have sent out a doodle schedule to the committee to staff our kiosk on Saturday and Sunday. So far only one person has volunteered for one hour. I would like confirmation from the committee on who specifically can make it to Annual this year.  I will staff it when I am available, as I am also going to all GLBT sessions to make sure our info is available at the door. One of our responsibilities is covering the Diversity & Outreach Fair. I will be there, and would love another committee/board member with me.  I will also be representing us at the NMRT orientation.
  • Promotion: We will need to continually reevaluate our print and web offerings to entice new members and keep our current members. I think our web committee and membership committee should talk about efforts to keep our social media presence current and timely.
  • Membership: Our numbers have dipped slightly. This is statistically normal when compared to other division/section/roundtables.

I welcome suggestions or additions to this report.  I am looking forward to seeing people at the membership meeting and the social.

Respectfully Submitted,

Sherry Machones

In going forward, our committee will need to focus on the following:

  • ALA Annual: We have to perpare for our booth at Annual, OLOS Diversity & Outreach Fair, and The Association Options Fair.
  • Promotion: We will need to continually reevaluate our print and web offerings to entice new members and keep our current members.
  • Election: Have conversations with the GLBTRT Board about Board members reaching out to recruit for the elections. Some on the Membership Committee are not as well connected and unfamiliar with the recruitment process.

I welcome suggestions or additions to this report.  I am presenting in Seattle and would love to have any discussions about the GLBTRT, and I am looking forward to seeing people at the social.
