    ASU Library seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, and service-oriented library technical services professional to lead the Acquisitions and Metadata Services team.  The successful candidate will lead acquisitions and metadata staffing, policies, workflows, and practices governing the acquisition and description of the Library’s information resources, ensuring optimal discovery, access, and interoperability. The person in this position will supervise multiple teams, collaborating extensively with personnel across all areas of the library, and will also serve as the library’s domain expert in current and emerging descriptive ontologies and acquisitions processes. The Head of Acquisitions and Metadata Services will collaborate with personnel working with collections, discovery and repository services, information technology, and other functional areas to efficiently and effectively acquire, ingest, and describe information resources, identify appropriate metadata schemes and standards for collections, and ensure optimal discovery of and access to resources.  S/he will use innovative approaches to problem solving and appropriate tools for data analysis and decision making.  S/he is also responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating personnel within this unit.

    Required qualifications



    • ALA accredited Master’s in Library Science, or post graduate degree in a related discipline

    • 5 years of acquisitions and/or cataloging experience in an academic, research, or large public library system

    • Knowledge of applicable national cataloging and database standards (AACR2rev, RDA, LCSH, LC classification)

    • Experience supervising staff


    Preferred qualifications



    • Experience with Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo

    • Advanced knowledge of traditional and emerging metadata schemes including MARC, Dublin Core, EAD, MODS, BibFrame, and other RDF based ontologies

    • Experience with bibliographic utilities and integrated library systems, vendor acquisitions and bibliographic services, authority control services, and automated routines for bibliographic maintenance

    • Knowledge of linked data and other emerging technologies relating to metadata management

    • Knowledge of current publishing practices and trends

    • Experience in managing projects and meeting deadlines

    • A customer service focus with excellent communication skills

    • Experience working with institutional repositories, digital libraries, rare materials, and/or finding aids


    Salary and Rank: This is a continuing appointment track Academic Professional position; Associate/Full Librarian and salary dependent upon experience.
