    What You'd Do


     


    BILINGUAL FLUENCY REQUIRED

    Work at the Denver Public Library to provide information, support, referrals and assistance to customers who have mental health, substance use, homelessness and exclusion issues. Serve as a resource and model to library staff to work effectively with challenging customers. Collaborate with community members and agencies to address the systemic issues and needs faced by at-risk library customers who spend time in and around the Central Library and other designated branches. Connect with vulnerable or at-risk individuals within the Library through roving service. Communicate with community members in order to understand their needs and share information that may be relevant to library services.


     


    You Have


     


    Knowledge of resources and social services available in the Denver area. Skill in addressing the needs of homeless or at-risk individuals. Skill in providing strong, dedicated and compassionate service. Ability to thrive in a working environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to develop a new Library program. Ability to take initiative and work independently. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with target populations, library staff, community, City agencies and the public. Ability to model positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences, both verbally and in writing. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to exercise reasonable and professional judgment. Ability to use extensive workplace technology including email, internet, databases and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.


    A Master's Degree in Social Work (preferred, not required).


    Three years of post graduation professional social case work experience, including experience working with a diverse, urban population.


    A Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record.


    Reliable transportation to travel between library locations.

    Second language fluency.


    A sincere desire to improve our community.

    Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers depend on qualifications and typically do not exceed the midpoint.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.


    The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.
