    The Wayne State University Library System (WSULS) seeks an innovative,

    service-oriented Science Librarian to support disciplines in the College of

    Liberal Arts and Sciences, where declared STEM majors have increased over the

    past five years by nearly 50 percent. The successful candidate will be

    knowledgeable of current library and scholarly information trends and

    practices, and possess the ability to apply this understanding to make a

    significant, positive impact on the WSU community.

    Responsibilities

    - Establish and maintain effective communication channels to identify and

    advance the learning, teaching, and research needs of WSU students, faculty,

    and staff.

    - Provide quality teaching and research-focused information services,

    including developing and conducting instruction programs focused on advanced

    resources for undergraduate and graduate students in the departments of

    Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Geology.

    - Collaborate with other subject librarians and staff to provide effective

    instruction, student success programming, and reference services to WSU

    undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff.

    - Advance the WSULS strategic priority of digital publishing and scholarship

    through continuous education. Provide counsel on scholarly communications,

    copyright, and research data management.

    - Serve as a member of the WSULS Researcher Support Team, with a particular

    focus on scholarly workflow including research data management in the physical

    and life sciences; and participate on other cross-functional teams as deemed

    beneficial to the WSULS enterprise.

    - Engage in professional and/or subject discipline organizations, research, or

    publishing that will enhance support of the sciences at WSU and advance the

    WSULS strategic pillars of Culture and People, Student Success, and Community

    Engagement.

     

    Requirements

    Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; strong commitment to teaching

    and public service; talent to communicate and interact effectively with

    faculty, staff, and students in a culturally diverse and rapidly changing

    environment; skills to analyze, organize, and present information;

    demonstrated aptitude to manage multiple priorities and tasks; capacity to

    work independently or as a team member, and to communicate effectively with

    non-technical staff, vendors and other campus technology staff; familiarity

    with current trends in library technology along with the ability to apply this

    knowledge to a local situation.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience with literature in the sciences or advanced degree in the sciences

    or related field, and a commitment to continuing development of skills for

    STEM support; academic library experience and familiarity with diversity and

    inclusion practices in research libraries; library instruction experience;

    skills in using technologies to enhance instruction; experience in providing

    reference services, user education, information literacy, database searching,

    and in developing print and online instructional materials and tutorials;

    familiarity with current trends and issues in data services and immersive

    technologies; experience with at least one of the leading learning management

    systems; experience using tools for web authoring, social computing, and

    online collaboration; knowledge of trends and policy issues related to digital

    technology and electronic resources; established record or potential for

    professional achievement and service.
