    The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child—in every school and every neighborhood—has access to a world-class learning experience from birth, ensuring our students will graduate from high school college- and career-ready. The Library and Digital Media Manager will support the district’s digital transition by effectively identifying, procuring, developing, organizing and distributing standards-aligned, digital and print resources.  This role will leverage the skills and expertise of the district’s librarians and technology coordinators to ensure decisions are context-appropriate.

     

    Critical responsibilities include: 

     

    Development and implementation of strategic plans that drive the effective use of digital and electronic format materials, resources and tools (including standards, policies/processes/protocols and pilots). 

     

    Administration of programs, systems and policies to develop CPS libraries, librarians and technology coordinators as key levers in the district’s digital transition.

     

    Identification, prioritization, development/procurement and continuous improvement of standards-aligned, instructional resources housed in the district’s Learning Object Repository (LOR).

     

    Promotion/advocacy for libraries and librarians via collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. municipal entities, CTU, funders, university partners, etc.).

     

    Collaboration with external partners and vendors (Universities, Council of Great City Schools, ISDE, ISBE, IMS Global, etc.) to ensure planning and implementation models are innovative and aligned to industry standards/best practices.  

     

    Collaboration with (internal) technical and instructional teams at the school, network and central office levers, to support the effective integration of digital systems.

     

    In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Library and Digital Media Manager must possess the following qualifications:

     

    Type of Education Required: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Library Science, Library Media, Technology, or a related field of study. Master’s Degree preferred.

     

    Type of Experience and Number of Years: 

     

    Three or more years of district- or systems-level library experience.

     

    Five or more years of experience with educational technology or digital media.

     

     Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

     

    Experience with standards-based systems interoperability (IMS Global Standards)

     

    Extensive successful experience in designing professional learning for large and small groups

     

    Ability to review and interpret highly technical information, translate technical materials for non-technical audiences and/or speak persuasively to implement desired action

     

    Knowledge of educational standards, including Common Core State Standards, NGSS, MTSS and WIDA ELD standards 

     

    Knowledge of how technology can be most effectively integrated in a classroom environment, 

     

    An unyielding commitment to continuous improvement and ability to use multiple sources of data to inform short- and long-term decisions

     

    Exceptional written, verbal, organizational, and technology skills

     

    Strong project management skills, certification strongly preferred

     

    Proven leadership, direction, and team building experiences  

     

    Ability to communicate effectively with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds

     

    The Library and Digital Media Manager will also be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

     

    Manage the SOAR Integrated Library System (centralized library platform for 200+ school libraries) and ensure the platform integrates effectively with other enterprise platforms.

     

    Manage procurement, payroll and budget processes, including monitoring of grant funds (existing and new) and donations.

     

    Provide high-quality professional learning opportunities to librarians, technology coordinators and other key stakeholders supporting the district’s digital transition.

     

    Represent the district as an expert in digital media (frameworks, strategies and education best-practices).

     

     

    Additional Notes:

    CPS employees are required to be actual residents of the City of Chicago within six months of beginning employment, and are required to maintain Chicago residency throughout employment.
