    Job Description


    Truckee Meadows Community College is seeking a dynamic, creative, and experienced leader and manager with proven effectiveness. This colleague demonstrates an understanding of the evolving role of the Library and Learning Commons Model in a community college setting and has a record of accomplishment of planning, implementing, and assessing capital improvements and developing metrics and unit plans aligned with success and effectiveness. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Truckee Meadows Community College, the Director will manage the internal operations of the Elizabeth Sturm Library and Learning Commons. The Commons, will offer technologically enhanced learning spaces for faculty to experiment with new technologies that support innovative learning and will allow students to take advantage of integrated spaces and staffing for library research, writing and math centers, tutoring, professional development, and adjunct instructor support. The Director is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising and assessing the resources and services of the Library and Learning Commons.


     


    Minimum Qualifications


    1. Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science, Library Informatics, Library Media, and/or related field from an ALA-accredited program is required.


    2. Four years in an Academic Library in a post-secondary institution; with two years in an administrative leadership position.


    3. Demonstrated experience in developing and managing multiple budget accounts that reflects positive results.


    4. Demonstrated experience of effective supervision, management, and leadership of librarians and library staff.


    5. Ability to value and encourage diversity, inspire and build trust, lead organizational and cultural change, foster innovation and empower staff growth.


    6. Proven ability to communicate effectively and build and maintain relationships with colleagues across disciplines, both within and outside of the library system.


    7. Understanding of the emerging issues facing today’s libraries and learning commons models.


    8. Commitment to responsive and innovative services and outreach, and can optimize resources.


    9. An in-depth understanding of current technological trends to assist the campus in striking a balance between print and digital library worlds. Specific focus should be on collaboration with faculty and tutoring services to support student learning and advance information literacy.


    10. Proven ability to work collaboratively and collegially with diverse divisions across campus.

    3. Experience with information literacy services and instruction in an academic library.


    4. Evidence of interdisciplinary/cross-departmental collaborations.


    5. Experience with innovative technologies.


    6. Experience in a community college setting


    7. Accreditation experience.


     


    Responsibilities

    1. Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with standards, mission, and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.


    2. Oversight and fiscal management of the Elizabeth Sturm Library.


    3. Advocate for the Library and Library faculty and staff.


    4. Coordinate and collaborate with the Tutoring and Learning Center staff and faculty to create an engaging, innovative, and learning-conducive environment for Learning Commons patrons.


    5. Support student learning and advance information literacy.


    6. Provide a leadership role in planning and implementing a vision for the future of the Learning Commons.


    7. Using an understanding of current technological trends, assist the campus in striking a balance between print and digital library worlds.


    8. Serve as an active and engaged member of the Faculty Senate Library Committee.


    9. Collaboratively develop assessment metrics for the Library and Learning Commons in order to engage in strategic planning and data-informed continuous quality improvement.


    10. Other duties, including oversight of media services, may be assigned based on the needs of the institutions.


    11. Evening and weekend work and travel may be required.


    12. Understand and accept the role to be played as a partner in an educational enterprise serving the best interests of the students.


    13. Other duties as assigned.
