    Job Description:

    Duties are numbered for convenience, and do not indicate order in terms of importance, frequency that the duty is performed, or the amount of time spent on the duty.


    1. Conducts administrative functions for library website and provides leadership to library’s website team. Maintains library’s electronic resources.


    2. Provides technical support to LibGuides authors. Works closely with other reference staff, including LibGuides team leader, Open Educational Resources librarian, library website team representatives, and other library staff in Circulation, Acquisitions & Metadata, and Multimedia. 

    3. Manages library’s digital infrastructure via Springshare (including LibGuides), EBSCOadmin, OCLC, and ProQuest platforms. Troubleshoots access problems for electronic library resources and communicates in a timely manner with appropriate internal and external parties to establish solutions. 


    4. Supports the use of special technologies such as augmented reality apps and classroom response systems for library programs and events throughout the academic year. 


    5. Provides reference assistance and support to students, faculty and staff. Answers reference questions using variety of print and electronic resources.


    6. Teaches information literacy skills and provides individual instruction to users with varying skill levels, in the research process and in effective use of electronic and print resources and databases. Conducts group instruction sessions for students and faculty. 

    7. Researches, evaluates and selects library materials to assist in maintenance and upgrading of print and electronic reference and circulating collections. Assists in evaluation and selection of print and electronic periodicals collection. 

    8. Collaborates with faculty in development of instruction sessions tailored to the curriculum, class assignments and student readiness. Responds to faculty requests for development of effective library research assignments. 

    9. Develops instructional modules for general and course specific library research. 

    10. Initiates, plans and develops tutorials and supporting instructional materials for specific databases or research needs and specific user groups.


    11. Provides advice and support to students including interpreting usefulness of reference materials for student projects, advises students on selection and focus of topics for research papers, and guides students in development of effective search strategies.

    12. Advises students on citation methods, copyright issues and provides other support as needed to promote learning and research success. 

    13. Works with the supervisor in orienting, training and mentoring new hires to the reference staff. As directed by the supervisor, provides guidance and project oversight for the part-time librarians. Works collaboratively with supervisor and full time librarians in planning program direction and initiatives of the department.

    14. Provides library instruction sessions at off-campus sites. Records statistics for reference and instruction sessions. 

    15. Participates in library assessment activities. Promotes library services at college events and through written articles in campus media.

    16. Maintains confidentiality of patron records and other information.

    17. Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands. Performs other related duties as required.  

    18. Monitors computer equipment used to access library information. Contacts IT support if service is needed for non-functional equipment. Serves on library and college committees.

    While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly stands and walks, and frequently sits at a desk to conduct reference research. Employee frequently reaches, bends or kneels to retrieve and shelve books. Employee regularly talks and listens to patrons, and frequently reads computer screens, catalogues, books and other material. Employee regularly lifts items up to 10 pounds, and occasionally pushes and pulls large book trucks up to 25 pounds.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Library science; research methods, sources and databases; library practices and procedures; Dewey Decimal System; online catalog systems; online searching techniques; Microsoft office and other computer applications; best practices in library website design; Knowledge of DSpace or other open source repository applications. Ability to: Maintain good working relationships with library patrons, co-workers and other job contacts; Work individually without supervision as well as in teams; Evaluate information sources for content, authority and relevance; Analyze complex reference requests; Demonstrate a broad knowledge base of college academic programs; Categorize materials in subject, numerical and alphabetical order; Exhibit analytical thinking; Maintain confidential and sensitive information. Skill in: Verbal and written communications; listening; teaching and transmitting ideas to persons of diverse backgrounds and learning levels; Conducting research and related problem solving; Researching general and technical information; Scanning and analyzing large quantities of information for relevance to research questions; Operation and maintenance of the library computer system; Use of the Internet; routine typing; spelling; Maintaining operational records, Beyond basic HTML & CSS skills. Skill using Bootstrap, jQuery, jQuery UI, Javascript, {{moustache}}, Font Awesome. Skill in Photoshop and Camtasia or other photo and video editing software.


    Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution.  At least 1 years of experience working in a library position with increasing responsibility. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
