Dear Spectrum Scholars: the Public Library Association (PLA) is heading to Philadelphia for the PLA 2018 Conference, March 20–24, 2018, and we want to make sure you’re coming, too…

PLA is pleased to invite you to apply for a great opportunity --  the Spectrum Scholar/PLA 2018 Conference Travel Grants.  The grants provide $1,000 for travel and housing arrangements, and complimentary registration to PLA 2018. Ten (10) Spectrum Scholars will be chosen to receive travel grants. For more information on the conference, visit http://placonference.org.

We hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the world of public librarianship. Selected recipients will be asked to participate in a networking event and invited to write about their experience at the conference for possible publication on http://publiclibrariesonline.org/ or Spectrum News. The ten grant recipients will receive a check in advance for the amount of $1,000 and are responsible for making their own travel and housing arrangements. PLA will provide complimentary conference registration.

    Criteria

    • Must be current or past recipient of an ALA Spectrum Scholarship and a first-time attendee at a PLA conference.

    • Must be current PLA student or personal member.

    • Previous recipients are not eligible.

    • Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

    Requirements
The main purpose of the grants is for the selected individuals to personally structure their time for networking, peer support, and career building as they see fit. Grant recipients may also choose to volunteer at the conference to work with PLA leaders on supporting the conference and will be invited to write about their experiences for PLA and Spectrum communications.
