    The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a collaborative and user-centered librarian for the position of Health Sciences Librarian. Reporting to the Director of Research Services and the Liaison Librarian Program, the incumbent will serve as a liaison to health sciences and related disciplines, and will be located in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. This position is part of the Libraries’ Liaison Librarian Program that emphasizes faculty and student outreach, engaging information literacy instruction, in-depth research support, and an innovative approach to meeting user needs. This is a tenure-track faculty position that requires professional and scholarly activity, and service on library and university committees.


    The Libraries emphasize excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a strong service orientation; a willingness to experiment with new methods and technologies; and the desire to actively engage in campus and community outreach activities to promote the Libraries and build partnerships.


    In a collaborative library liaison environment, the incumbent will develop services for the health sciences including opportunities to:



    • Design and conduct curriculum-integrated instructional sessions in the liaison areas, develop effective instructional materials, and contribute to information literacy program planning.

    • Provide in-depth research consultations regarding health science resources, health literacy, health informatics, and evidence-based medicine.

    • Share knowledge about and provide access to relevant library collections and services.

    • Teach general library instruction sessions and workshops, including library instruction for Core Writing classes.

    • Deliver information literacy instruction in online environments and produce e-learning materials, including tutorials and research guides.

    • Provide information about the scholarly communications process and data management, and stay current with trends and requirements for data use, access, and management in the health sciences.

    • Collaborate with faculty to meet teaching and research objectives and build sustainable partnerships.

    • Collaborate with a team of STEM librarians and colleagues in the Savitt Medical Library to meet liaison program objectives and serve the health sciences related disciplines.



    • Participate in and extend the Libraries’ outreach and assessment initiatives.

    • Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse communities and cultures.


    Required qualifications:



    • ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent

    • Two years of experience in a library reference, instruction, and/or liaison capacity


    Preferred qualifications:



    • Background in and/or familiarity with sources, issues, and trends in the health sciences and evidence-based medicine

    • Experience in an academic library environment

    • Experience collaborating with faculty in a liaison librarian capacity

    • Experience planning and delivering innovative services and information literacy instruction

    • Familiarity with tools that support online learning such as LibGuides and other Springshare products


    Compensation and benefits: This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. Appointment is at the Librarian II level. Salary range: $60,100-$76,200, DOE. TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 annual vacation days; generous sick leave policy; tuition benefits for self and family; no state income tax or FICA
