    Dakota County Library is seeking an Adult Programming and Outreach Librarian to serve a system wide role in the development and delivery of quality educational and recreational programming for adults across our diverse community. This innovative Librarian will have project management and event planning skills, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external partners.

    This position reports to the Adult Services Manager, and is tasked with helping to identify programming opportunities for adults, and supporting the coordination and promotion of these events. This person also collaborates closely with other members of the system Youth and Adult services team, and adult services librarians. Duties include participating in outreach and connecting with community organizations. Twenty percent of time is spent working at a public service desk, assisting customers with information needs.
     


    Minimum Qualifications


    · Masters Degree in Library and Information Science

    Preferred Minimum Qualifications:
    Experience working with diverse populations and clients with limited English proficiency. Bilingual skills are desirable.


    Duties & Responsibilities


    These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

    1. Support the development of library adult programming at the system level to meet community needs.



    • Work with staff at 9 library locations and outside contacts to organize events and classes for adults, including addressing communication and evaluation needs.

    • Monitor expenditures, tracking costs for programming and materials.

    • Evaluate presenters to maintain a set of quality program options for staff at branches, which fulfill the needs of diverse communities and target audiences.

    • Assume project and event management roles for larger, system wide programs.


     2. Build relationships and network with internal and external partners to fulfill the library's mission.  



    • Collaborate with community groups to expand and promote library services, and participate in outreach events.

    • Serve as a representative/liaison in external library and community meetings, and communicate relevant information to the Adult Services Team.

    • Participate in appropriate educational workshops, conferences and professional development opportunities to build knowledge of trends and best practices.

    • Work with Adult Services Manager to plan meetings and other in-service training opportunities for adult services librarians.


     3. Create content for promotions to encourage use of library services and attendance at programs.



    • Assist with the development of promotions for programs, including gathering information, making format recommendations, and addressing content questions.

    • Offer support to librarians in building awareness of and attendance at events.

    • Advise appropriate library staff of upcoming programs for posting on the website, social media, and other communication channels.


    4. Provide information services to the public.



    • Spend 20 percent of work week at a public service point, providing informational and/or technology assistance to library customers.

    • Match customers' needs with information and resources in a meaningful, appropriate, and professional manner, in a virtual setting or in the community.


     
    5. Other specialized duties as needed for the operation of the library.

      Work Environment:
      The work is sedentary and requires no special physical demands. The work involves minimal risks and observance of safety precautions typical of office settings. The work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. May require occasional travel. 

      Selection Process:
