    Howard-Tilton Memorial Library invites applications for the position of Research and Instruction Librarian at the Latin American Library.  The library seeks to build its professional staff by recruiting talented, energetic librarians and subject specialists interested in shaping the future of Tulane University and New Orleans.


     


    Position Summary


    The Research and Instruction Librarian at the Latin American Library develops research services, instructional programs, and engages in collection development for the Latin American Library, in consultation with the Director of the LAL.  With a strong command of Spanish, oral and written, s/he combines advanced research expertise, information fluency, and outreach with collection development in Latin American and Caribbean Studies.  Coordinates with the Director and the Curator of Special Collections to develop research and instruction services and public engagement related to the LAL’s special collections, and to share in liaison services to relevant campus faculty, departments and programs, keeping abreast of research trends in relevant disciplines, and seeking ways to engage students and faculty on campus.  The LAL Research and Instruction Librarian also coordinates the LAL web site and the Library’s presence on social media.  S/he serves on library committees, collaborates and coordinates activities with other librarians and units, and actively participates in national and international professional and scholarly associations. 


     


    Qualifications


     


    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



    1. ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent and a degree in a relevant subject area; OR advanced degree in a relevant subject area and familiarity with the operations of an academic library;

    2. Excellent command of English and Spanish, spoken and written;

    3. Advanced knowledge of the history, politics, economics, literatures and cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean


     


    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY: 


    1.  Familiarity with electronic resources and reference tools for Latin American and Iberian Studies


    2. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and demonstrated experience working well in a team and with the public


     


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 



    1. Willingness to develop expertise in emerging technologies

    2. Competence in Portuguese or willingness to acquire competency


     


    Salary/Benefits


    Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Librarians are academic appointees; librarians do not have tenure or faculty rank, but in other respects receive the benefits of faculty members; generous benefits including a choice of health plans, tuition waiver for self, and undergraduate tuition waiver for dependents.
