    General Description / Primary Purpose

    The Electronic Resources Librarian works under the direction of the Head of Acquisitions and Collection Development in the Technical Services Department. The position works closely with several different areas of the library, including the Collection Development Committee, Head of Discovery Services, Head of Instruction, Head of Research & Faculty Outreach, and others to purchase, maintain, and manage the electronic resources of the library. The E-Resources Librarian functions as and develops expertise in library issues related to electronic resources. In addition, the incumbent assists in the acquisition of e-resources, collects and analyzes data and statistics, and facilitates the licensing of e-resources.





    Essential Duties


     











    Job Function

    1. Assists in the Acquisition of Electronic Resources. Works closely with the Collection Development Committee and the Head of Acquisitions in selecting new databases and making decisions on renewals. Works with vendors, particularly EBSCO, on purchasing, renewing, and cancelling of electronic resource materials. Contributes to a list of all requests for databases and E-resource materials. Contributes to a list of all requests for databases and E-Journal packages. Coordinates conversion of print to electronic subscriptions.


    2. Participates in collection management and produces reports. Meets with vendors to discuss and evaluate new databases and improvements to existing services. Monitors vendor listservs and communicates changes in services to appropriate staff members. Retrieves online usage statistics from vendor administrative modules and maintains spreadsheet of monthly and annual figures. Provides reports on cost per use. Provides annual statistical reports to the Collection Development Committee, the Library Administration and other staff members, as requested, for evaluation and reporting purposes. Provides title comparison lists and title overlap reports. Coordinates trials for new e-resources. Provides year-end reports on title counts and fiscal information.


    3. Manages the Licensing of Electronic Resources. Facilitates the licensing of electronic resources by reviewing those agreements and contracts, overseeing the library portion of the license process, and developing skills in negotiating with vendors for best prices and terms of use. Reconciles journal title lists against library holdings to prepare for statewide consortia contracts and renewals. Facilitates communication on licensing between the library and other campus departments including General Counsel and ITS. Manages e-resource trials and informs the library and university community of such trials.


    4. Monitors and Maintains Electronic Resources Knowledgebase. Maintains the Library’s knowledgebase of Electronic Resources. Serves as primary contact for the vendor in managing resources within the system, and works to insure accuracy and access. Responsible for managing the E-journal locator and A-Z products used by the library. Maintains the database list/page in LibGuides. Works with database providers, the library’s Systems Librarian, and the Metadata Librarian to activate access to new resources, troubleshoot access problems, and maintain the EZproxy. Maintains files of correspondence and other information related to electronic databases


    5. Coordinates On-site Training. Works with vendors and library staff to coordinate and implement on-site training opportunities for new products and changes to existing products.

    1. Serves as the library liaison to a university academic department and participates in collection development and purchasing decisions for the library materials budget in that department’s topical area. 
    2. Serves on library, university, and statewide committees or project teams as appropriate. 
    3. Monitors the appropriate or assigned statewide listservs. 
    4. Maintains current awareness of issues and developments in library and information science. 
    5. Participates in professional organizations and in professional development activities as appropriate. 
    6. Maintains research guides in accordance with job duties. 
    7. Performs other duties as assigned.


    Required Qualifications  
    Faculty Position Required Qualifications

    Required: ALA-accredited Masters of Library Science degree. Librarians with 5+ years and a solid research record and electronic resource management experience, post MLS, may be hired at the associate librarian level with a salary of $55,000 to negotiable.


    Departmental Requirements

    A broad understanding of electronic resource management; Proficiency with using an electronic resource management (ERM)-like systems such as iContracts, use of Excel spreadsheets, and a working knowledge of Innovative Interface’s Sierra or other library management system; Knowledge of web-scale discovery services and related tools, such as e-journal portals and link resolvers; A familiarity with emerging theories and concepts around electronic resources; Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and procedures; ability to multitask, prioritize, and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment; excellent oral and written communications skills.
