The NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Open Knowledge Librarian in the Copyright and Digital Scholarship Center. The Copyright and Digital Scholarship Center advises the Libraries and the NC State community on issues of scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and copyright related to the Libraries’ services and collections. The Center also investigates and promotes digital information strategies and tools to support new forms of scholarship and sharing. Reports to the Director, Copyright and Digital Scholarship Center.
Responsibilities
- Develops programs, advocacy tools, and partnerships that facilitate and promote open and publicly engaged scholarship.
- Working closely with colleagues in Digital Library Initiatives and Research Collaboration, investigates and promotes digital technologies that support open practice across the research lifecycle and maximize the dissemination and impact of scholarship.
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to support innovation in areas such as open education, digital scholarship, data management, data analysis, visualization, and digital humanities.
- Directs projects and initiatives to partner with researchers in the creation and management of research assets.
- Participates in library planning, serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams.
Required Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree.
- Demonstrated understanding of digital scholarship across the research lifecycle.
- Demonstrated knowledge of trends and issues in open and public scholarship, including open access, data, education, and open source.
- Experience conducting outreach and developing programs that engage scholars, researchers, and/or students.
- Demonstrated understanding of tools and practices for managing scholarly identity and evaluating and maximizing the impact of scholarship in the digital environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capacity to thrive in an exciting, ambiguous, future-oriented environment and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.
- Evidence of ability for ongoing professional development and contribution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with research faculty, including efforts to build collections and scholarly communication programs.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies in scholarly identity management, research data management, and visualization of scholarship.
- Record of public engagement through scholarly presentations and writing.
- Understanding of copyright and related laws that affect scholarly practices and access to scholarship.
- Understanding of issues related to funder mandates for open access, open data, and broader impacts of research.
Salary and Benefits
The Libraries offers a highly competitive salary in recognition of applicable education and experience for this position. Librarians have non-tenure track faculty status (without levels of rank). Benefits include: 24 days vacation, 12 days sick leave; State of NC preferred provider medical insurance, and state, TIAA/CREF, or other retirement options.
