    Tenure-track faculty position


    The Binghamton University Libraries seeks an experienced librarian to provide leadership for building and enriching our research collection. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in leading a collaborative collections team, building and maintaining relationships with domestic and international vendors, developing innovative collections analysis methods, and exploring collection development strategies to support teaching and research.

    Job Description:


    The Binghamton University Libraries seeks an experienced librarian to provide leadership for building and enhancing our rich research collection. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the collections team to evaluate, enhance and manage our unique and diverse collection. S/He will be part of a dynamic team pioneering the development of innovative library resources and services.


    Binghamton University Libraries is a collaborative environment that offers strong support for professional growth and development. This tenure-track library faculty position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Public Services and Collections.


    Duties and Responsibilities:



    • Provide leadership in all aspects of the Libraries' collections development and management, including strategic planning, budget and policies.

    • Lead collaborative collections team to provide high quality collections.

    • Utilize evidence-based decision-making for collection allocation, renewal and retention decisions; includes development of faculty research activities metrics.

    • Serve as primary contact for vendors providing collection content.

    • Work with Acquisitions, Electronic and Continuing Resources, and other library units in all matters related to collection development and management.

    • Serve as administrative supervisor of subject librarians; train and mentor subject librarians in collection policies, procedures and workflows.

    • Participate in the Libraries' development efforts and acquisition of gift collections.

    • Serve as subject liaison for assigned academic departments; liaison duties include subject-specific instruction, subject guides and collection development for those disciplines as well as subject-specific and general reference service.

    Requirements:



    • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution

    • Supervisory experience

    • Significant experience with collections development in an academic research library, including knowledge of current and emerging trends

    • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and build partnerships with faculty and staff in a culturally diverse community


    Preferred Qualifications



    • Academic background in the humanities/fine arts preferred

    • Working knowledge of one or more languages (French, German or Italian preferred)

    • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and collection assessment
