    JOB DESCRIPTION

     





    Function:

    The Associate Dean of Library provides leadership in library development, strategic planning, in services that support instruction and learning, and in staff professional development. The scope of responsibilites include: supervision of library staff (faculty and support staff), managing the library operation, budgetary development and management, planning collection development, evaluation of services and library instruction (information literacy), infrastructure, and programming. The Associate Dean will provide reference consultation to patrons when needed. The position participates in college-wide administrative functions and advises college administration in the innovative project of facility expansion to create an exemplary learning space that facilitates student learning.  





    Essential Responsibilities:

    1. Oversee Library operations to include daily supervision of services and staff to ensure efficient Library operations and prompt and courteous delivery of services to students, staff and faculty. 

    2. Hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate Library staff. Provide staff with professional career development, job mentoring and team building efforts to maintain a well-informed and efficient Library staff. Interpret and administer collective bargaining agreement provisions to operate the College Library in compliance with bargaining agreement contracts. 

    3. Oversee Library Department budget. Plan and maintain budgetary expenses to comply with established accounting practices. Provide accurate and timely budget reporting. 

    4. Develop and enhance Library collection. Order and obtain materials (in print and in digital format) within established budget to maintain a comprehensive Library collection that enhances student learning and meets or exceeds the institution's mission. 

    5. Develop proposals for external funding and grant management to enhance further Library collection and services. 

    6. Provide program review and prepare reports for accrediting agencies and governing boards.

    1. Serve as the College's copyright officer. 

    2. Develop and maintain internal/external partnerships and represent ECC Library at state and local levels.

    Physical Demands:

    Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.     Position requires close visual acuity to perform activities (i.e. preparing/analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes).

    Required Qualifications:

    1. Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited institution. 

    2. Minimum of five years' of progressively increasing administrative experience that includes strategic planning, budget management, and staff supervision . 

    3. Solid understanding of academic library services, including policies and procedures, collection development, and copyright law. 

    4. Knowledge and experience of contract governance and implementation. 

    5. Solid budgetary development and management experience. 

    6. A solid working knowledge of library-related information technology, including online catalog administration, web development, state and local network infrastructure administration, etc. 

    7. Knowledge and experience with assessment of library services and instruction 

    8. Ability to interact with Board of Trustees, college administration, faculty, staff, and the general public 

    9. Ability to collaborate with other college departments in providing services to support instruction and learning, with an emphasis on improving and expanding services. 

    10. Experience collaborating with departments that provide faculty and staff professional development or experience providing staff training 

    11. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong grant writing focus.
