Final close of the FY2017 budget

ALA has completed its final close of the FY2017 budget, so I've posted our final numbers plus a brief narrative. In summary, thanks to the 50th anniversary fundraiser and the standard transfer of money from our endowment fund, we came in just under our projected budget. We are still at a deficit of -$8,491, but we're getting better at projecting numbers.

Please reply with questions as you read through these documents.

Thanks,
Jenny

Dear Jenny,

Thanks for sharing these documents. I think I've seen a real decrease in the number of emails I've received on webinars, classes, and other educational opportunities in the last couple of years. The ones I'm thinking of may be primarily from ALA in general, not LITA. Though it's entirely likely that I accidentally unsubscribed myself somewhere

On the other hand, I've seen an uptick in webinar and web course offerings from Library Juice, Library Journal, and Amigos Library Services. My subscription to non-LITA listservs has continued to see a steady number of offerings from other divisions. Is LITA in-fact sending out fewer emails? Or maybe the number of competing service providers has increased...?

Best,

Amanda

I'd have to defer to Mark to estimate if we've been sending out fewer emails marketing our CE events. It's possible we are, because all of the divisions are making a concerted effort to not overwhelm members with email.

That said, I looked up your email address in our marketing email software (Informz), and you did unsubscribe yourself (probably accidentally) in June 2016. It's possible you were trying to unsubscribe from an ASCLA or RUSA mailing, because it's only been in the last year that ALA has narrowed the "unsubscribe" link to just the sending unit (long story).

I think the last LITA marketing email you received would have been on June 1, 2016. I think I can resubscribe you if you'd like.

Amanda,

Like Jenny said, ALA has asked us to be really strategic about targeting and sending our CE emails so as an entire association we don’t overwhelm our members. Otherwise they end up opting out of all the emails then.

I would say for LITA we probably send out more emails for CE than we used to. My memory says most CE emails in the past were for whole groups of sessions at a time. Now we do some of that, but much more blasting for each individual session.

That’s just a hunch on my part. Maybe it’s another statistical metric we could explore in the future.

Mark
