    University Summary

    The University of Dayton seeks an innovative, collaborative, flexible, and service- oriented professional to serve as its Research Services Librarian and liaison to the School of Engineering. The successful candidate will possess willingness to enhance research services for the entire campus community. With a renovation scheduled to begin in 2018, the Research Services Librarian will play an important role in helping to shape the Libraries’ advanced research support services to be offered in the new Scholars Commons. Appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications.


    Responsibilities of Research Services Librarian
    • Provides leadership for advanced research support services offered by the University Libraries
    • Actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with campus partners in
    identifying and promoting research support for faculty and student research, grant initiatives, information and data management, research impact and metrics and other research related activities
    • Initiates programming related to advanced research support services, such as workshops and presentations to campus stakeholders
    • Assists with the development of the Scholars Commons
    • Serves as a member of the Research Team and provides research consultation services
    • Serves on the Instruction Team and provides library instruction to
    academic departments within the School of Engineering and the physical sciences, as well as limited general education instruction
    • Serves as collection liaison to the School of Engineering and physical sciences
    • Conducts research and disseminates the findings through publication in
    peer reviewed journals, major national meetings, and other venues
    • Serves on various library, university and professional committees


    The Research Services Librarian serves as a liaison to the School of Engineering as mentioned above and also the Physics, Mathematics and Geology departments and provides leadership for the advanced research support services offered by the University Libraries.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum of 33 credit hours completed at the time of application from an MLS from an ALA-accredited program or its international equivalent, with an expected degree by December 2017. 
    • Excellent written communication skills 
    • Demonstrated ability to meet University Libraries’ promotion and tenure standards in librarianship, research, and service 
    • Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor requires at least five full years of post-graduate experience working as a professional librarian and a strong record of peer-reviewed scholarship


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Degree in a STEM field or previous applicable experience working with STEM faculty or researchers, or at least 12 credit hours of college level coursework in STEM 
    • Knowledge of librarians role in supporting the research cycle
    • Successful experience in working with diverse user communities 
    • Teaching experience, especially in a university library setting
    • Excellent oral communication skills
    • Excellent presentation skills
    • Knowledge of technology platforms in library or academic environments
    • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and changing environment 
    • Effective inter-personal skills
    • Strong public service orientation
    • Demonstrated success in creating and leading projects 
    • Appreciation for the University’s Catholic and Marianist mission and identity
