Auburn University Libraries seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and mission oriented individual to join the Reference and Instruction Services Department as Business & Economics Librarian. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Public Services/Head of Reference and Instruction Services in the University Libraries, the successful candidate will serve as liaison to the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business and the Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts, which include programs with robust distance education and residential components. This twelve-month tenure-track position requires professional and scholarly activity as well as service on library and university committees.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Provide research assistance in business and economics
•Serve as liaison and provide outreach to highly ranked graduate and undergraduate departments in the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business
•Serve as liaison and provide outreach to the Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts
•Participate in and develop specialized information literacy instruction for business and economics majors and graduate students
•Participate in the library’s general instruction program for undergraduates
•Engage in collection development and management for business and economics
•Provide general reference services, both virtual and in-person, for the University community as well as members of the public. Some evening and weekend reference desk service is required.
Minimum Qualifications
•Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program
•A degree in business/economics or comparable professional experience
•Strong commitment to excellence in public service; adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to engage in continuous learning in order to meet the changing needs of library users
•Excellent interpersonal skills; strong and effective written communication skills
•Ability to work independently; evidence of ability to initiate and carry projects through to completion
•Demonstrated ability to contribute collegially and productively in a team environment
•Ability to adapt emerging technologies to enhance user services in a collaborative, busy, and evolving public services unit
•Potential to meet university promotion and tenure requirements for library faculty
Desired Qualifications
•Experience providing reference, instruction, collection development or liaison services in business or economics
•Advanced degree in a business-related discipline
•Demonstrated knowledge of standard statistical packages
•Familiarity with social science data sources
• A record of professional, scholarly research activity
