    Monographic & Media Cataloging Coordinator

    Position Available:  Position is open immediately.  This is a 100%-time, twelve-month, Academic Professional appointment.


    Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of Content Access Management (CAM), the Monographic & Media Cataloging Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Monographic & Media Cataloging Team within the unit. The Coordinator provides leadership within the Library for English language cataloging, by collaborating with other Technical Services units to determine appropriate workflows and with Public Services units to assess ongoing cataloging needs. The Coordinator provides training, documentation, and communication of national rules and standards related to monographic and media cataloging and works with others to determine local cataloging policies.


    Monographic & Media Cataloging Coordinator:



    • Coordinates the overall work of the Monographic & Media Cataloging Team by developing priorities and managing workflows;

    • Supervises the staff, hourly employees, and student assistants assigned to the Monographic & Media  Cataloging Team, including hiring and evaluating team members;

    • Conducts training and provides documentation for the Monographic & Media Cataloging Team;

    • Collaborates with faculty and staff in the Library to assess monographic and media cataloging needs;

    • Coordinates monographic and media cataloging workflows with other library units, including Acquisitions and CMS;

    • Performs cataloging for materials in all subject areas using national and local standards, OCLC’s Connexion Client, and the Voyager integrated library system;

    • Contributes authority records to the national authority files;

    • Works with colleagues in CAM to create and maintain internal documentation and conducts cataloging training for library staff in other technical and public services units;

    • Serves as a leader in the library for cataloging activities, maintaining current expertise in national standards and their local implementation;

    • Participates in professional associations and contributes to the professional dialogue to improve service and enhance access to library resources.


    Qualifications:


    Required:



    • ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science

    • Minimum of one year demonstrated supervisory experience

    • Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging rules, standards, and tools

    • Solid computer skills including spreadsheet and database applications

    • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

    • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and flexibly with a wide variety of staff in a rapidly changing environment


     


    Preferred:



    • Cataloging experience in an academic or research library setting

    • Experience with ExLibris Voyager integrated library system and OCLC Connexion

    • Experience with MarcEdit software

    • Experience with non-MARC metadata standards

    • Experience in designing or updating cataloging workflows

    • Familiarity with current development of cataloging standards and initiatives

    The Content Access Management (CAM) department consists of eleven faculty and academic professionals, 20 FTE civil service staff, and 7 FTE academic hourly and student employees engaged in cataloging and metadata creation to facilitate the discovery and delivery of the Library's information resources. The various units in CAM include: Monographic & Media Cataloging, Serials Cataloging, Foreign Language Cataloging, Electronic Resources Cataloging, Metadata Services, and Authority Control. Members of CAM also contribute to large-scale digitization projects, web scale discovery services, and the creation, harvesting, enhancement, remediation, and transformation of Library metadata. The unit participates in cooperative cataloging programs to support national and international resource sharing.
