2017 ESLS Call for Proposals and Papers

The Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) invites submissions for proposals for papers on original research focusing on school library practice or school librarianship. Selected papers will be presented in a concurrent session at the AASL 18th National Conference & Exhibition to be held from Nov. 9-11, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition, the selected papers will be automatically considered for publication in School Library Research (SLR) (pending the journal's peer review process).

The national conference session will focus on research interpretations of the conference theme, “Beyond the Horizon.” More information about the AASL conference can be found at national.aasl.org.

Submissions may include, but are not limited to, the following themes:

  • School Librarians as Technology Leaders
  • School Librarians as Designers
  • Content Learning Integrated with Digital Literacy Skills
  • Integration of School Library Standards and Academic Standards
  • Inquiry Learning in the Age of Academic Standards
  • Digital Tools for Teaching and Learning
  • Collaborative Learning in the School Library
  • School Librarians as Co-Teachers
  • School Librarians as Managers of Today’s School Libraries

Proposals for papers which report preliminary findings on research in progress should be submitted no later than 11:59 EST on Friday, August, 11, 2017. The proposals should be within a 1,500 word limit using APA style and submitted in electronic form to Lucy Santos Green at lucysantosgreen@gmail.com.  The authors of the three selected proposals will be contacted by Monday, August 28, 2017. The authors will then be required to submit the full 5,000 word paper by Monday, October 9, 2017.
