    The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Research Data Librarian. The Research Data Librarian will collaborate with liaison librarians, researchers, the Office of Research and Innovation, and other stakeholders to organize, disseminate, and preserve data generated by the University's research enterprise. The successful candidate will join a culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.


    Reporting to the Associate University Librarian of Scholarly Communications and Publishing, the Research Data Librarian will work closely with librarians and research, teaching, and administrative faculty to improve research data management expertise and practice across the University. The Research Data Librarian will provide consultation, leadership, and thorough knowledge of best contemporary practice in research data management to faculty, research investigators and investigator teams, and students. The Research Data Librarian will help researchers create data management plans, determine long-term storage and curation plans for research data, select and use data repositories, and meet funder compliance requirements for data integrity and access. The Research Data Librarian is expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Faculty with the VCU Libraries are evaluated and promoted on the basis of job performance, scholarship, and professional development and service.

    Qualifications
    Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

    Preferred: Experience in leading and managing research data management, scholarly communications, or related programs. Expert knowledge of trends and best practices in research data management throughout the research lifecycle. Experience working with researchers and administrators in an academic environment. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of users with different levels of experience to meet their research data management needs. Understanding of contemporary research practices including workflows, transparency, and reproducibility. Working knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research tools including data visualization, data management planning, data analysis, and data description. Strong teaching and data literacy competencies. Proven understanding of scholarly communication trends, funder requirements, open access, repositories, and research impact measures. Demonstrated awareness of privacy and confidentiality for human subjects research and other research involving protected data. An advanced degree or relevant subject knowledge in a health science or science discipline.

    Successful experience working in a collaborative environment. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills as well as presentation and public speaking skills. Able to work professionally with academic and clinical faculty. Flexible and adaptable to succeed in an evolving, fast-paced environment. Strong service orientation. Ability to bring new ideas and concepts to current practice. Interest in developing new skills through continuing education opportunities. Experience at urban research institutions, HBCU or minority serving institutions is desired.
