Three Things a YALSA Membership can do for you!

 

Have you ever been curious about a YALSA membership?  Here’s a sneak peek at what is happening this month for YALSA members only:

 

 

This month’s member’s only webinar “Using Media Literacy to Stop the Fake News Cycle” teaches how you can use simple media literacy concepts and online tools to help young people decode, deconstruct and talk back to harmful and misleading news stories.  This webinar airs on Thursday, February 16 and YALSA members can access is live and for free--but you have to be a YALSA member to access it! YALSA will host a Members’ Town Hall on Feb. 28th from 2-3pm, EST. It will focus on social action, and talking through what's possible/appropriate for a library staff person to do at work.

 

YALSA just put out the call for members to serve on three new taskforces: Leadership Fundraising, Member Achievements Recognition, and Member Grants and Awards Evaluation.  Applications are due on February 15 [http://yalsa.ala.org/blog/2017/01/31/volunteer-opportunities-three-new-yalsa-taskforces/] In addition to these new taskorces, YALSA is also looking for members to build the next Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults and Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers lists [http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/hVM28G6b226], applications for these two selection list committees are due on February 12.

 

Love attending or have always been interested in the YALSA Symposium? Then checkout YALSA Symposium Stipends for members.  Applications are due June 1 and two members will receive travel grants to Louisville, KY, for the 2017 symposium http://www.ala.org/yalsa/yasymposium/stipend

 

There is also a YALSA member’s travel grant to Denver, CO, to present a paper at the 2018 Midwinter Meeting. Applications are due June 1 and one paper will be selected. The presenter will receive up to $1,500 to defray travel and registration costs.  The paper will be published in YALSA’s peer-reviewed Journal of Research on Libraries and Young Adults after the conference.http://www.ala.org/yalsa/awardsandgrants/mwpaper
