    The University at Albany Libraries (State University of New York, Albany, NY) invite applications and nominations for the position of Director of Technical Services and Library Systems. Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries, this senior administrative position is responsible for all activities related to acquiring information resources for the Libraries' collections, and creating and maintaining access to collections in all formats. Responsibilities include oversight of the Acquisitions, Catalog Management, Cataloging, and Library Systems departments. As a member of the Libraries' senior administrative group, the Director shares responsibility for developing and implementing the mission, goals, and broad policy directions for the University Libraries.


     


    POSITION DESCRIPTION:


    UAlbany is looking for a forward-thinking, service-oriented, collaborative leader with a keen sense of the evolving role of research libraries in the digital age and demonstrated knowledge of best practices and current trends in all areas related to technical services and library systems. In addition to providing overall leadership and vision for the Technical Services and Library Systems Division, the Director prepares budget projections and needs assessments for the Division; allocates and administers the Division's budget which includes the Libraries' equipment, hardware, and software budgets; and provides leadership and direction for developing and maintaining technical services collaborations and partnerships with other departments, other library divisions, and other academic libraries. Tenure-track library faculty at the University at Albany are expected to engage in research, publication, and service to the Libraries, the University, and the profession, as required for promotion and continuing appointment.


     


    QUALIFICATIONS:



    • Master's degree in library science, information, information science(s), and/or information studies, from an ALA-accredited program or foreign equivalent, from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization

    • 10 years of successful, progressively responsible experience in one or more areas of library technical services or library systems

    • 5 years of management and supervisory experience

    • Track record of creativity in problem-solving and developing library programs

    • Strong analytical and budget management skills

    • Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries, lead effective teams, manage change, and mentor colleagues

    • Working knowledge of trends in acquisitions, cataloging, and information technology

    •  Must demonstrate strong service orientation; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to organize and plan; and leadership ability

    • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population

    • Evidence of effectiveness in librarianship, as well as scholarly activity and professional service, as required for initial appointment at the academic faculty rank of either Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



    • Experience working in a public institution and unionized environment

    •  Experience using Ex Libris' Aleph integrated library system or other Ex Libris/ProQuest applications

    •  Experience migrating integrated library systems/library service platforms
