    Job Description

    Summary: The Reference Services Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the main Reference Desk. This includes hiring, training and supervising student assistants, providing research and other assistance to patrons, monitoring and managing virtual reference system, managing reference, microtext, and government documents collections.
    Essential Functions:
    • Directs student assistant programs including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating a team of student reference desk assistants.
    • Provides reference service, problem resolution, and troubleshooting for students, faculty, and staff.
    • Serves as evening and weekend services supervisor for reference department.
    • Advises the Director on resources and services necessary to meet the reference and research needs of Wake Forest students, faculty, and staff
    • Administers reference department's online systems including LibAnswers, LibCal, and knowledge base.
    • Coordinates the Federal Depository Library program in accordance with the Federal Depository Library Programs guidelines and policies.
    • Analyzes reference transaction data in order to make recommendations on student training, resources, policies, and library services
    • Serves as departmental Deacon Depot shopper (online supply purchasing system).
    • Coordinates reference desk schedules.
    • Maintains the Reference, Microtext, and Government Documents collections.
    Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Bachelor’s degree and public services experience in an academic library setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Strong commitment to customer service and user satisfaction.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide reference assistance both in person and virtually.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of research and reference materials in traditional and electronic formats.
    • Initiative, energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to supporting the academic and research needs of students and faculty in a liberal arts university.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; strong interpersonal skills and public service attitude. Ability to work effectively in a team environment; ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff of the University.
    • Strong critical analysis and organizational skills.
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office and internet applications.
    • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within a team environment and across all library departments.
    • Ability to learn new software applications and adapt to changing technologies quickly.
    • Ability to work Sunday – Thursday (12:30pm – 9:00pm) during the academic year (August – May) and 8:30am – 5:00pm during intersessions and summer (June – July).
    Accountabilities:
    • Responsible for own work.
    • Responsible for hiring, supervising, training, and providing work direction and problem solving assistance for student assistants.
