    Davidson College seeks a collaborative and innovative College Archivist and Records Management Coordinator to join an active and engaged archives and special collections team. This person will partner with the Digital Archivist, Special Collections Librarian, and other members of the Research, Teaching, and Collections department to provide collections administration, records management, and reference, instruction, and outreach to the on- and off-campus community.

    Primary Responsibilities
    Collections Administration
    Identify and acquire essential administrative, historical, and legal records of the college and manuscript collections that document the local area, including paper and electronic documents, audiovisual materials, and artifacts
    Provide appropriate cataloging and preservation work for archival and manuscript materials following national standards
    In collaboration with Digital Archivist create databases and online resources for finding aids, digital collections, and department website


    Reference and Instruction
    Provide on-site and electronic reference assistance regarding archival and manuscript collections to researchers, including students, faculty, staff from departments across campus, alumni, and visitors
    Serve as a resource for local and college history for the campus and area community
    Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop course-integrated archival and special collections instruction


    Collaboration and Outreach
    Provide outreach opportunities both on- and off-campus to promote archival awareness and college and local history
    Participate in departmental planning; partner with archives, special collections, and other library staff to develop policies and priorities related to digitization, print and electronic records, and preservation
    Collaborate with faculty, library staff, and other college staff on campus- and community-wide projects, including grants, fundraising, and multicultural activities
    Act as a subject liaison to academic departments to meet the collection and communication needs of faculty


    Records Management
    Coordinate the college's records management program by: working with all college offices to establish and revise retention schedules; managing the transfer and storage of inactive records; providing reference assistance with inactive records; and documenting the appropriate destruction of records
    Develop policies and procedures for electronic records in collaboration with the Digital Archivist
    Required Qualifications
    Master's degree in Library/Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association
    At least five years of full-time professional archives experience
    Experience in archival collection administration, including accessioning, processing, and deaccessioning collections
    Experience with descriptive standards (DACS and Dublin Core)
    Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in records management
    Commitment to working with the public and providing excellent reference and instruction services
    Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and partners on- and off-campus
    Desired Qualifications
    Formal education in archival theory and practice
    Familiarity with academic archives
    Experience working with electronic records
    Experience using ArchivesSpace software
    Understanding of copyright, rights management, and privacy laws
    Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse groups
    Commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education
