The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Business Research Librarian. This position works in a collaborative environment in the James Branch Cabell Library’s Academic Outreach department to serve as a liaison to the School of Business with programs in accounting, economics, information systems, management and entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, and supply chain management and analytics. Responsibilities
Reporting to Head of Academic Outreach, the Business Research Librarian will serve as liaison to the School of Business. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues to support additional business-related initiatives and programs across campus. The Business Research Librarian will actively build and maintain relationships with faculty, students, and administrative units within the School of Business. They will provide course-integrated instruction, workshops, individual consultations, and research assistance. They will actively pursue outreach opportunities to promote library services and advance research and learning for business faculty and students. They will ensure reference collections are relevant to evolving business research demands. Academic Outreach Librarians are expected to contribute beyond their subject area by providing collaborative and cross-disciplinary support for departmental and library-wide outreach activities. Academic Outreach librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Faculty with VCU Libraries are evaluated and promoted on the basis of job performance, scholarship, and professional development and service.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred: Graduate-level degree in a business-related discipline. Two or more years of public services experience in an academic library. Experience teaching in a classroom setting and providing in depth research assistance. Familiarity with specialized business research sources and methods. Experience working with web authoring tools including LibGuides and developing promotional materials. Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, service-oriented, and collaborative environment. Evidence of successful project management skills and the ability to plan and implement programs. Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities under pressure. Evidence of creativity, initiative, and flexibility when working independently and on teams. Ability to work professionally with faculty. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

The campus is home to most of the University’s undergraduate and many of its graduate programs, including the School of the Arts, the College of Humanities and Sciences, and the Schools of Business, Education, Engineering, and Social Work. The School of Social Work also offers the Masters of Social Work at the Northern Virginia Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. In addition, VCU’s Qatar campus in the Middle East offers degree programs through the School of the Arts.
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience, not less than $50,000 annually. This is a full-time, non-tenured faculty position.
