    The Colgate University Libraries seek a collaborative, experienced, forward-thinking leader as the Head of Metadata & Cataloging Services. Reporting to the University Librarian, the ideal candidate will provide experienced leadership in planning, creation, and management of metadata and cataloging services, authority control processes, and bibliographic maintenance activities for items and collections purchased/acquired, subscribed, or created by the Colgate University Libraries. The individual in this position will manage staff engaged in cataloging print, physical, and electronic media while integrating electronic resource workflows and introducing innovative practices leveraging advanced metadata, indexing and analytical features of the libraries’ ILS and digital platforms for improved discoverability of the Libraries’ resources including digital resources relating to the university’s heritage.


    Required Qualifications:
    • Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited institution or program.
    • Five years of progressively responsible experience in library metadata/cataloging.
    • Experience with national bibliographic utilities (OCLC), integrated library systems, vendor cataloging services, authority control services, and automated routines for bibliographic maintenance.
    • Experience in providing original cataloging for multiple formats. Professional understanding and working knowledge of cataloging procedures and principles including BIBFRAME, RDA, MARC21, AACR2, LCSH and LC classification and authority formats.
    • Professional understanding and working knowledge of MARC and non-MARC metadata schemas, standards, and their applications, such as Dublin Core, METS and MODS, and familiarity with the evolution of technical services products and services.
    • Two years experience and demonstrated skill in direct supervision of support staff or librarians, including hiring, orienting, training and development, organizing workloads, delegating responsibility, providing guidance and direction, monitoring, coaching.
    • Ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative as a supervisor in order to accomplish departmental, library, and institutional goals.
    • Strong organizational skills and written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
