    TITLE: User Engagement and Assessment Librarian, (Non-Tenure Track Librarian of Practice IV)
    John Cotton Dana Library, Rutgers University - Newark

    RESPONSIBILITIES: The Rutgers University Libraries, John Cotton Dana Library seeks an innovative, creative and service oriented librarian with a background in assessment or research methods. The User Engagement and Assessment Librarian position is the first of its kind in the Library and will be responsible for envisioning, developing and implementing a systematic assessment program for the library. This individual is capable of designing and implementing data collection methods and subsequently analyzing, synthesizing and articulating the results to enable us to transform our services to effect outstanding library experiences for our user community.
    The User Engagement and Assessment Librarian will:
    • design and engage in assessment activities to further understand what kind of library collections, services, and resources to support the faculty and students need and their preference for service delivery,
    • combine assessment results and knowledge of library trends to engage internal and external colleagues to develop innovative ideas and approaches that are consistent across all library service points, non-public operations and out into the community using evidence-based decision-making,
    • identify elements that can be integrated in our services to address student recruitment, retention, progression and graduation rates and develop methods to measure and assess library impact in these areas,
    • participate in providing instruction, research assistance and information services in person, by appointment, and virtually via email and chat, and
    • work closely with the Dana Library Director to develop strategic resources, facilities, and services necessary to support the instruction and research endeavors of the Rutgers University - Newark user community.
    This full-time non-tenure track position reports to the Director of Dana Library and is a member of the Dana Library Faculty, a team of librarians committed to providing exceptional library services to a diverse population of faculty, students and community users.

    QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution. Experience with a variety of data collection and analysis tools, including user satisfaction surveys, focus groups, ethnographic studies, as well as, SPSS, NVivo and Atlas.ti. Demonstrated experience to serve the research and information needs of a diverse user community in an academic library setting. The successful candidate will exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, and staff. Proven public service orientation and successful experience working with inter- and intra- campus teams in a higher education environment. Ability to work a schedule that may include evening and weekend hours. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.

    SALARY/STATUS: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    The John Cotton Dana Library, named after former Newark Public Library director John Cotton Dana, opened in 1966 and is the main library at Rutgers University–Newark, supporting all of the institution’s undergraduate and graduate programs except for law. Dana Library houses Rutgers University Libraries’ research collections in business, nursing, and neuroscience and contains over 600,000 volumes, 600,000 pieces of microform, and 15,000 audiovisual items. The library has been a federal depository since its opening and currently selects and acquires approximately 50% of the publications issued by the United States Government Printing Office.
