    The Atlanta University Center - Robert W. Woodruff Library supports the teaching and learning missions of four institutions of higher learning that comprise the world’s largest consortium of HBCUs—Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. Conveniently located and easily accessible to the campuses, the Woodruff Library is a shared resource for the intellectual and cultural life at the Atlanta University Center.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Atlanta University Center – Robert W. Woodruff Library is committed to displaying excellence in our delivery of service. To continue our excellence in program and services, the library seeks a collaborative, innovative, mission-focused leader to assist in providing vision, leadership, and direction for the library’s operations and services. Serving as a member of the organization’s management team, the Deputy Director will have primary responsibility for user service outcomes and for strategic guidance of the Archives Research Services department (ARC), Collection and Content Management department (CCM), Digital Services department (DSD), and the Discovery and Access Services department (DAS). The Deputy Director will serve as a member of and may facilitate meetings of the library’s Faculty Advisory Council, Student Advisory Council, and the Scholarly Communications working group. The Deputy Director works closely with faculty of the member institutions to advance the strategic priorities of the library. May serve as a liaison for selected activities of the library’s Board of Trustees. This position reports to the CEO and Library Director and functions as the administrator-in-charge in the absence of the CEO and Library Director. The incumbent is significantly engaged in the profession and has experience with non-profit governance.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    •   Participates in strategic planning, development of new initiatives, budgeting, resource and policy development, and governance
    •   Assists the CEO/Library Director in the drafting and review of policy, budgeting, and planning Responsible for development of user procedures, allocation and management of library acquisitions to include the negotiation of license agreements for print and electronic resources
    •   Participates in the line of approvals for accounts payable to include staff travel and training and works to ensure responsible stewardship of budget
    •   Supervision of ARC, CCM, DSD, and DAS departments to include collaboration in recruitment and retention strategies
    •   In conjunction with relevant library departments, builds and sustains partnerships with AUC member institutions and external organizations to increase the visibility and use of the library
    •   Evaluate and reimagine library functions and services to best meet the needs of member institution constituents
    •   Works with appropriate library administrators and staff to promote and evaluate library services that impact student learning and influence continuous improvement of library operations based upon the analysis of assessment results
    •   Responsible for development and submission of library reports in support of accreditations and other studies required by the member institutions
    •   Develop and disseminate essential communications to staff and users.
    •   Serve on faculty committees of member institutions as assigned
    •   Actively engage in professional development, research, and publication/presentation of knowledge in the library and within the profession
    •   Participate in grant development and implementation
    •   Function as administrator-in-charge in the absence of CEO/Director

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    •  ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Science
    •   Five or more years in a supervisory role
    •   Three or more years of experience working with technical services, public services and/or archival services
    •   Proven record of leadership and an ability to articulate messaging in a manner that is engaging for a wide variety of audiences.
    •   Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse members of an academic and public community
    •   Ability to synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and to communicate results using selected presentation styles and formats effectively
    •   Experience managing library operations to include resources and budgets with evidence of progressively increasing scope of responsibility
    •   Ability to independently set priorities, adapt and drive change initiatives, and successfully manage projects
    •   Knowledge of current practices and emerging trends in higher education and libraries
    •   Experience managing conflict involving staff and users
    •   Experience licensing scholarly content and negotiating with library vendors
    •   Experience with grants writing
    •   Experience on or working with governing boards

    SALARY & BENEFITS:
    Salary commensurate with experience
