    Sul Ross State University seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative Education and Outreach Librarian. The Education and Outreach Librarian will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to deliver reference and instruction in-person and online using best practices for learning, teaching, and information literacy, and also develop instructional materials, research guides, and other resources to optimize utilization and understanding of Library services. The Librarian will develop and coordinate library outreach materials such as displays, exhibits and blog postings, as well as use social networking conduits, liaison relationships, and cultivated relationships with student groups to promote library services to the target community.

    Required: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library or information science program; familiarity with concepts and goals of information literacy; ability demonstrated by experience or coursework to learn and apply new technologies for the delivery of reference and research services commitment to student success; demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, perform multiple tasks simultaneously; demonstrated capacity to solve problems, work effectively with all levels of personnel, and contribute effectively to team efforts; and demonstrated excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

    Preferred: Two to five years’ experience in a library. Experience teaching library instruction classes in an academic environment; experience consulting with instructors and other academic support staff related to course and assignment design; experience creating instructional and information materials such as online tutorials, surveys, and guides; experience assessing the learning outcomes of library instruction classes; experience using Blackboard or other course management software; library reference and public service experience; experience creating/maintaining websites; experience in creating and managing social media sites for a library; demonstrated problem solving, decision making, negotiation, leadership skills.

    Primary Responsibilities:
     Responsible for the library’s instructional services and teaches information literacy courses; provides leadership and programming that promotes students’ acquisition of library research and information literacy skills and faculty integration of information literacy instruction into their courses; develops and administers an assessment program for the library’s reference and instructional services including periodic administrative and statistical reports. Develops and coordinates library outreach materials such as displays, exhibits and blog postings, as well as use social networking conduits, liaison relationships, and cultivated relationships with student groups to promote library services to the target community. Serves as liaison to Rio Grande College and Southwest Texas Junior College campuses located in Uvalde, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass. Provides information desk assistance including evening and weekend duty on a rotating basis with other librarians. Serves on library and University committees; participates in professional development activities.

    This position is security sensitive.

    Other Information: Flexible schedule encompassing early morning to late night and weekend hours. Some overnight travel to Rio Grande College Campuses will be required.
