    The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Research and Education Librarian. The Research and Education Librarian will serve as the liaison to the School of Pharmacy. In this position the liaison will assume a leadership role for providing research and instructional support for School of Pharmacy faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will join a culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.

    Responsibilities
    Reporting to Head of Research and Education, the Research and Education Librarian will serve as the liaison librarian to the programs of the School of Pharmacy, the School of Medicine’s Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and VCU Health Department of Pharmacy Services on the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Campus. The Research and Education Librarian will assume a leadership role for providing research and instructional support for faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will apply adult and active learning theories, principles, and practices to developing and delivering course content to support teaching and learning in curriculum-integrated and library-based instruction. To facilitate the success of this position, the librarian is expected to use platforms such as Blackboard and LibGuides; web conferencing systems including Adobe Connect and Zoom; audience response systems; mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones and other emerging technologies. The incumbent will provide in-depth and on demand research consultations for individuals and small groups. S/he will guide faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of library services and resources to support the delivery of systematic reviews and evidence-based practice. Research and Education faculty are expected to actively contribute to the library’s education and outreach programs beyond their liaison assignments. The Research and Education Librarian is expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. The incumbent for this position will pursue opportunities for professional development and networking in the American Association for Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Tompkins-McCaw librarians are expected to pursue and maintain membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP). Faculty with the VCU Libraries are evaluated and promoted on the basis of job performance, scholarship, and professional development and service.
    Qualifications
    Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.


    Preferred: Experience working in an academic health sciences library setting. Undergraduate or graduate degree or previous work experience in a basic science, chemistry, health science, or biomedical field. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in teaching and learning in academic library instruction with emphasis on adult learning and demonstrated understanding of active learning principles. Experience teaching to a variety of audience levels and using emerging technologies for education, communication, and professional purposes. Demonstrated success in applying technology to support student learning and engagement. Familiarity with web authoring tools including LibGuides. Knowledge of principles related to evidence-based practice. Experience with literature reviews, systematic reviews, and mediated searching of relevant databases including AccessPharmacy, BIOSIS Reviews, CINAHL, NCBI databases, PubMed, Web of Science and others. Experience searching additional information sources including but not limited to conference proceedings, statistical data, and government databases. Experience evaluating and using electronic resources. Understanding of scholarly communications and awareness of government mandated policies related to scholarly publishing. Experience with reference management software including RefWorks, EndNote, Mendeley or others.

VCU also operates academic programs in Doha, Qatar, supported by a library there, and in various locations throughout the U.S. and the world.     VCU Health is mainly located on the MCV Campus in historic Court End, near the government and financial centers of the city. The campus includes the schools of allied health professions, dentistry, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy. VCU Health includes an 820-bed hospital, outpatient clinics, a 600-physician-faculty group practice and nearly 200 specialty areas, many of national and international renown. It also includes the Massey Cancer Center, Virginia's first NCI-designated cancer center. In addition to multidisciplinary centers for cancer, cardiology, neurosurgery, and transplantation, VCU Health offers virtually every form of contemporary medical service.


    Salary: Salary commensurate with experience, not less than $48,000 annually. This is a full-time, non-tenured faculty position.
