    Loyola University Chicago invites applications from enthusiastic, self-motivated librarians with a strong public services commitment and leadership skills. Loyola librarians are considered non-tenured faculty, but participate in a system of rank and promotion for the library faculty which encourages and rewards professional development and growth. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Public Services and Collections, the Head of Access Services is primarily based at Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park, but some responsibilities may require travel to Loyola’s Water Tower Campus in downtown Chicago.

    The Head of Access Services leads a department which facilitates access to Loyola University’s physical collections, and provides access to other library collections world-wide through interlibrary loan and reciprocal borrowing agreements. This position serves as a member of the Department Heads management group which cooperates to plan and optimize workflows and user experience.

    Primary duties include:



    • General oversight for the departmental responsibilities of Circulation, Stack Maintenance, Media Services and Interlibrary Loan.

    • Administrative duties related to departmental reporting, planning and representation of Access Services during library-wide planning 

    • Supervision of Access Services staff including hiring, training, supervision, staff development, and evaluation

    • Development, interpretation, and enforcement of policies and procedures related to all areas of Access Services

    • Coordination and cooperation with other public services departments to ensure consistency and efficiency of user services, policies, and procedures

    • Coordination with the Library Systems and Technical Services departments to ensure efficient workflows

    • Providing leadership and coordination, as needed, for access services in the Law Library and Health Sciences Library

    • Direct supervision of two librarians and two full-time staff and indirect supervision of five full-time staff and 30-40 student workers 

    • Management of the departmental student employee budget

    • Providing leadership and instruction on copyright policies for the University Libraries

    • In coordination with Library Systems Department, manage, monitor and troubleshoot the circulation functions of Alma/Primo

    • Participating in Library or University committee work as assigned

    Requirements


    Required qualifications:


    ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree in library or information science

    3 – 5 years of relevant professional experience

    Supervisory experience, preferably of both professional and paraprofessional staff

    Demonstrated commitment to public service excellence

    Strong communication skills including presentation, verbal and written skills

    Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

    Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team


    Preferred qualifications:


    Demonstrated ability to innovate programs and services in order to advance organizational goals

    Experience with Ex Libris Alma integrated library system
